If we can be of assistance to you during the application process, please let us know. Admission to Honors Courses or Advanced Placement For a student to be admitted into an Honors or Advanced Placement course, he/she must show both an aptitude in the subject and the discipline necessary to succeed. Any student who has scored an Educational Records Bureau (ERB) stanine of 8 or 9 (on a scale of 1 to 9) on the appropriate exam, and who has made an A in his previous course in that discipline, is considered qualified for an Honors or AP course. Students not approved for an Honors or Advanced Placement course may appeal by writing the appropriate department head a letter requesting admission to the course. The letter of appeal must be received by the designated deadline. All instructors who have taught the student in that discipline are included in the decision to approve or deny the student's appeal. The Head of School must also approve the appeal. Students permitted to enroll in an Honors or Advanced Placement course through the appeals process must stay in the course for the entire year, and the grade earned will appear on the student's transcript. Graduation Requirements
Acceptance to Colleges and Universities At Episcopal High School, college advising is a top priority. In the past five years we have sent 599 graduates to attend 160 colleges and universities. Our College Placement Office is housed in spacious facilities containing two separate advising rooms, as well as a student information center, where students can use a wide variety of helpful resources. Here they may browse through numerous catalogs and viewbooks from colleges and universities nationwide in order to obtain important information about college options. Students may also view college videos, with the flexibility of being able to check them out for home viewing. In addition, our students have access to College View, a multi-media college-search computer program that matches their interests with appropriate colleges and universities across the country. Each year seniors also have numerous opportunities to meet with the many college representatives who visit EHS. Last year almost 100 representatives from as far away as Switzerland and Scotland visited with our seniors. Our goal is to find several colleges and/or universities where a student will feel comfortable, both academically and socially. With so many places to choose from, the college search can seem quite overwhelming to students; therefore, we are here to assist them with the process and to help eliminate unnecessary stress. Preparing for college admission starts as early as the freshman year. Our faculty members serve as advisors, making sure that students take the courses required for admission to competitive colleges and universities. During the sophomore year, the College Placement Department offers a tour of Texas colleges that allows students to visit small, medium, and large colleges and universities, both private and public, representing a variety of competitive levels. During the junior and senior years, we work with our students on a more individual basis, helping them narrow their choices. Alumni have been accepted into a variety of top level colleges. |
